Photo Exhibition About Crimea at the Main Library

From 12 October to 27 November 2026, the photo exhibition „Documenting Crimea: Cultural Heritage Through Open Knowledge“ will be on display in the lounge of the Main Library. The exhibition highlights the unique natural and cultural heritage of Crimea and the Indigenous peoples of Ukraine — Crimean Tatars, Karaims, and Krymchaks — whose historical homeland is the Crimean Peninsula.

Over 40 photographs from Wikimedia Commons and personal family archives, accompanied by explanatory texts written by scholars and community experts, tell a powerful story of human resilience in preserving identity, cultural memory, and living traditions under occupation and ongoing war, while showcasing the role of Open Knowledge.

The project was conceived by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mariana Senkiv (researcher from Lviv, Ukraine, currently at the University of Bayreuth under a DAAD programme) with Wikimedia Ukraine and partners. All are warmly invited to the opening on Monday, 12 October 2026, at 14:00, or to visit the exhibition anytime during library opening hours until 27 November.
