New Rules on Bringing Jackets and Bags into the Library Starting 4th August

Due to the introduction of self-checkout using RFID technology in the last weeks, there will be new rules regarding bringing jackets and bags into the library. Starting Monday, 4th August 2025, patrons are allowed to bring jackets and bags (even when they are not see-through) into the reading rooms in the Main Library and the Departmental Libraries NW I, NW II and GEO. This rule change will also be applied in the Departmental Library RW as soon as the technological upgrades – which are already being prepared for – have happened there as well.

Both lockers for jackets and bags as well as our library baskets to transport your utensils will still be available. The baskets, however, will no longer be checked out. You can find them in the entrance area of the library in question or can receive them at the circulation desks.

In general, only non-alcoholic beverages in tightly closed, unbreakable containers are allowed in the library. Glass bottles, cups without lids (e.g., to-go-cups for coffee), cans and any type of food are not allowed. You are welcome to eat inside the lounge in the Main Library.
