Service tip for the month June

Truncation

Here is a useful trick to save time with searching:

You can cut off every search term by using the asterisk truncation * and search with different variations of a search term. This works in all search fields in the catalogue, like "All fields" or "Subject heading".

The truncation replaces letters in words. You can use them to get more results than you would with one word. You find plurals and related words that are spelled similarly.

Example: "psych*ic" would find psychic, psychotic, psychopathic or psychopathologic. If you add another asterisk at the end, you would find the plurals, too.

It is not important to pay attention to lower and upper case forms.

But be aware not to make spelling mistakes! You might get no results.
