Finding journals and newspapers just got easier – ZDB catalogue relaunched with new interface and features
The
catalogue of ZDB (database of periodicals held by libraries in Germany and Austria) has been relaunched with a new (radiant pink) interface. In a collaboration of Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation and the German National Library, it has been revised and considerably rejuvenated.
The key innovations in this
new catalogue are the improved filter options as well as extensive possibilities to locate and compare holdings across libraries.
Particular attention has been given to the depiction of connection/interlinking of titles of journals and newspapers (predecessors, successors, supplements, etc.). Especially newspapers, which have been published for a long time and contain a lot of supplements can be found more easily.
This picture shows an example of a graphic genealogical tree of the local newspaper “Nordbayerischer Kurier”.
The Journal Database
ZDB records all journals and newspapers which are available in German and Austrian libraries.
With more than 1.7m documented titles it is the worldwide largest database of its kind in the world. It contains printed journals as well as electronic issues.
Single articles are not recorded in the ZDB.
The ZDB can be used to find out whether a specific journal is available from a library in Germany.
