Database „Deutsche Biographie“ launches new website design

You need information about notable historic personalities from German speaking countries? The “Deutsche Biographie” – the digital German national biography – provides scientifically based information online. The core of this offer of the “Historische Kommission” and “Bayerische Staatsbibliothek” are about 50,000 encyclopedia articles from the “Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie (ADB)” and the “Neue Deutsche Biographie (NDB, vol. 1-26, A-Vocke)”.
Via links to 200 additional online resources, searches across a database with 750,000 entries for persons are possible. These records contain corresponding lexical entries as well as references to primary sources, literature, objects, works and portraits.
The new homepage provides user-friendly access to different search modes. The map search enables a search for persons or groups of persons from specific areas, e.g. personalities born in Bayreuth (62 results, among them the author Max von der Grün (1926) and the philosopher Max Stirner (1806)). Another search option is the visualization of networks between persons. The search interface and the “Help” pages are available in English. The latest addition to the homepage is the category “personalities who were born or have died on the day”.
Other useful interdisciplinary databases and portals, that can support your search, are listed in our Database Information Ssystem DBIS.
